Lee Roy Selmon's story combines the virtues of family football scholarship and volunteering for the community. One of the first things he did is to help his familial. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. The family raised nine kids on a Eufala farm. A second reason was Selmon is the youngest of three brothers who played for Oklahoma. Three of them were All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's best lineman. He was awarded two championships as well as the score was 32-1-1 over his three seasons as the Oklahoma's starting linebacker. In 1975, the National Football Foundation named him an Scholar-Athlete for the 3rd time in 1975. Selmon graduated with a diploma from the University of California at Berkeley. Lee Roy was involved in volunteering for ten hours per week throughout his college years. After graduating Lee Roy moved to Tampa and spent the next nine years playing for the Buccaneers. There were three times, he was named All-Pro. Then he began his business career. In 1988, he was an Account Relation Officer at Tampa's First Florida Bank. He also worked with the following groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It's no wonder in 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named him as one of the country's 10 outstanding young males. Lee Roy was 6'2" tall and weighed 265 lbs in the time he played football at college. In 1975, he led the group. In 1993 he joined the University of South Florida as an associate director of athletics. He was named to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988, and the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 awarded their Distinguished American Award to his parents Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor who presented this award.
